Pressing Issues: An Observational Research & Analysis

Summary ↴
This observational research explores how pedestrians interact with Australia’s PB/5 crosswalk buttons at a major Sydney intersection. Through three sessions in different weather conditions, I recorded behavioural patterns such as repeated button pressing, group reliance, and risk-taking behaviour. The findings suggest that a lack of feedback from the system causes uncertainty and impatience. This project connects my design background with real-world, human-centred challenges in public infrastructure and highlights the importance of clear communication in interaction design.
